Economic Plantwide Control using Commercial Process Simulation Software

ثبت نشده
چکیده

It is desired to make the Economic Plantwide Control design procedure proposed by Skogestad (2000, 2004, 2012) available for engineers without deep knowledge of process control or optimization. The integration of the use of commercial process simulators to obtain the process model could be a useful tool for the automation of the economic plantwide design procedure. However, process simulators are set up in "design mode" and often work poorly in "operation mode". In this project, the use of commercial process simulators to generate process models suitable for an automated economic plantwide control procedure is explored. The analyzed process is methanol production, as it consists of: a reactor, a separator, and a recycle stream with purge. Simulations were made in UniSim R400 Design Suite. The optimization for nominal conditions and disturbed process was done using Matlab NLP fmincon algorithm.

Economic Plantwide Control of the Cumene Process

Economic plantwide control of the cumene process over a large throughput range (design to maximum achievable throughput) is studied. The process has 12 steady state operating degrees of freedom (DOFs), which are optimized for maximum hourly profit. At maximum throughput, the highest number of constraints (eight) is active leaving four unconstrained degrees of freedom. Reasonable controlled vari...

Economically efficient operation of CO2 capturing process. Part II. Design of control layer

In part I of this study, control structures were proposed for different operational regions of a postcombustion CO2 capturing process using the top-down steady-state economic part of the plantwide procedure. In the current study, the bottom-up part of the complete procedure is considered. For this purpose, dynamic simulation is used to validate the proposed control structures. Different control...

Plantwide Operability Analysis based on a Network Perspective: a Study on the Tennessee Eastman Process

Complex process plants increasingly appear in modern chemical industry due to the considerable economic efficiency that complex and interactive process designs can offer. Interactions between process units (e.g., material recycle and energy integration) often cause significant difficulties in plantwide control. As such, it is important to study plantwide operability (i.e., whether a plantwide p...

An industrial and academic perspective on plantwide control

The purpose of this paper is to stress the importance of selecting the right plantwide control structure and the need for a formalized approach that can encompass the many issues that arise in plantwide control design. Since the concept of process control design based on a holistic view of the process came about, the variety of procedures and approaches to the design problem has illustrated the...

Networked Plantwide Process Control with Asynchronous Communication and Control

The need for economic efficiency and safety has driven the development of large and complex chemical plants. Due to the presence of interactions, controlling such plants are often difficult. This paper aims to address this issue by developing a networked-based process control approach. In this framework, a plantwide process is modeled as network of process units which is controlled by a network...
